I am not my hair...

It's the singer Akon's birthday and as a result I thought I'd write about a song he sang with India Arie that I really like called "I am not my hair." It really spoke to me because to me it's about being comfortable in your own skin (or hair.) I realize there'a lot more to it but it makes me think of how much I feel like even if sometimes I wish I could be someone else. When I think about that, as much as things might be hard, and as much as I want to continue to improve and grow (and I do work towards all that) deep down, I know I wouldn't want to be anyone else. I hope everyone can find something in themselves that they like being. I really believe there's so much good in people and that's what I love most about people. I hope people always keep that goodness and be proud of it!

Hurrah for DEAF Inc!

This evening I went with a good friend to a 40th anniversary event for DEAF Inc, which is an organization in Boston that works to help people that are deaf and hard of hearing to live full and independent lives. I'm glad I was able to go because I'm taking sign language courses at DEAF Inc. i'm really glad there are organizations like DEAF Inc to help build community for people who are deaf and hard of hearing and to help people learn ASL and about deaf culture. The singer Barbara Streisand was born today and that makes me think of a song she sang called "Don't Rain on My Parade." I like it because in times of need it gives me a sense of confidence. Even if things are hard for me, it's nice to think of a parade or I guess, a bunch of things that are happy.  Even if you don't have a parade, I hope that if you want to celebrate something, you don't let anything stop you!

Shirley Temple was born today in 1928 and I found this quote from her that I really liked. I think love is the best thing there is and I feel like as long as love exists, then things aren't so bad. Autocorrect Humor!

Autocorrect, (that ingenious little invention for cellphones that "corrects" your texts when it thinks you wrote something you didn't mean to write, or tries to think for you when it "knows" what you want to write before you write it because of  course, autocorrect is all knowing) can be really funny. sometimes.  With that in mind,  when I saw this joke, it really made me laugh.  If you have a phone with autocorrect, I hope (most of the time) it's able to reflect just exactly how you're feeling!

Happy Boston Marathon Day!

I used to run track and field in high school and as much as I used to complain that it was hard, I did rather like running track. I just liked the satisfying feeling that I got when I finished a race. Plus, it was nice to know that people cheer for everyone running. It's nice to shout for someone so they know you're there for them. So this is my virtual shout: to everyone watching the Boston Marathon today, run hard and don't give up!!!

Red Sox Game!

I went to see the Red Sox with my family today which was super fun and the fact that the Red Sox won was really nice. That aside,  I like watching the Red Sox in person because I get to see how the fans are so into the game. For example, when the Red Sox hit a home run, a man sitting in front of us jumped  up and starting dancing and giving everyone around him (including my family) high fives. I just like how baseball can help people feel so happy like that. Plus, I got to be with my family which always makes me feel happy! I hope that everyone has something that makes them so happy that they can't help but express that happiness by sharing it with others. After all, happiness is best when shared!

A lovely morning at the beach

I'm happy because my parents came to visit today for the weekend and so I took the day off work and we went to Revere Beach which was really fun. It was especially nice because the weather was lovely. The sky and the ocean were so blue it almost seemed to me as though they blended together. Walking along the beach got me thinking about some music I heard from the soundtrack of the movie "Up" called "married life." It really is very jolly and it just seems perfect to listen to when one is at the beach because it's so cheerful. I hope that everyone has had a very happy Friday!

Ok, I realize this is late but yesterday was siblings day and so I thought I'd write about how much I love my brother and sister. I love having a sister and a brother because we're always there for each other. It's nice to have inside jokes that no one else really understands and I like how even if we disagree, we stick together anyhow. My life is better because of their influence.  They really are the best!

Birthday

There's something nice about birthdays just because I believe birthdays are a blessing. I'm another year older today but I like the idea that everyone really is just a young person who has been around for a while. It's Elementary!

The comedian/singer Tom Lehrer was born today in 1928 and I always liked his songs because they make me laugh so much. One Song I really like is called "The Elements." Mostly I liked it because my Mum introduced me to it when I was in high school and struggling with my science class. Although I still can't recite the elements, the song is fun to listen to and it still brings a smile to my face.

Make someone happy

I was listening to some music online today and this song called "Make Someone Happy" sung by Jimmy Durante came on and even though it's a romantic love song, it got me thinking about how good it feels to see people happy and to have the possibility of playing a role in helping people be happy. It really is a lovely feeling and it never fails to make me feel good inside. My hope for all those who read this is that you decide to help others be happy because happiness should be shared and spread!

Love has always seemed like the best of gifts and to me, gifts are things that are given without expectation of getting something in return. Once a year a day

I was thinking today about how nice really good days are, days when things just seem to go really well and people seem happiest. I love those types of days. Thinking of those days makes me think of this song Once A Year A Day" which is all about doing things that make one feel happiest, no matter how outlandish or silly doing those things might seem on any other day. I hope that everyone has many good days, more than just once a year, just because good days are lovely things to have!

Fairy Tales

The author Hans Christian Andersen was born today in 1805.  He of course, is famous for writing fairy tales.  I've always felt glad that fairy tales exist, if only because I like the fact that they help children dream. While I know it's not always good to dwell on dreams, it's nice to be able to imagine things. When I was very young, fairy tales really made me believe that anything is possible. Today, although I think possibility have some limits, the idea that I can make dreams realities is still really comforting.  I hope fairy tales continue to be told to children for a long time to come to hopefully show them that so much is possible and it's good to dream! PS: my favorite story that was written by Andersen is The Ugly Duckling. I saw this wonderful musical about his life when I was a child and in it, there's a lovely song called the Ugly Duckling that I still love. I hope others enjoy it as well. I wish everyone a happy Sunday!

Random thoughts for a snowy day....

So this was my thought process about going to the gym today: I should go to the gym today.....but it's cold! I should go to the gym today because then I'll feel virtuous afterwards....but it's cold AND snowing like mad! I should go to the gym today....but my apartment/bed is soo warm.....I could go to the gym tomorrow....after all, when it snows and is cold out, it's best to always put off til tomorrow the virtuous things you meant to do today!
