Dogs as fitness motivation

I saw this exchange on Facebook between a trainer and someone who was seeking to exercise. Since I think dogs are fun, I feel I could easily have the conversation below with a trainer. Anyway, I wish everyone a very happy Tuesday!

Trainer: What are your goals?

Me: To pet all the dogs.

Trainer: No,your fitness goals.

Me: To be able to run fast enough to pet all the dogs!

One of the most fun things that I get to do every Sunday is sing. I like going to church because there's always singing and after going to the church I go to, I always feel better afterwards. Whatever makes you feel happiest I hope you can take time out of each day to have a little fun!

Gorillas with style!

I saw this story about an anti-poaching activist who took some pictures with a group of orphaned gorillas who looked like they were posing for the photo as well. I just thought the story was really cool and it shows that even gorillas like to strut their stuff! To learn more about these gorillas watch the video below.

Since I love singing,  I thought this quote was appropriate, especially because the sing Ella Fitzgerald was born today in 1917.  One song that she sang is called "They Can't Take That Away From Me" and I like it because it reminds me of how music is something that no one can really take from me. I've found that so many surprising and  good things have come to me from kindness and hard work.  I've met so many really wonderful people through the work I do and any kind thing I've done has been rewarded in ways I never thought possible. People are always really kind to me and I know that each day at my work there's always someone to smile and laugh with and that's always a lovely thing for me. I always find I feel better when I'm doing things that are kind, it just makes me feel good inside. Good Day Sunshine

I've joined the community choir called Polymnia in Melrose and this summer we will be performing a concert featuring songs by the Beatles. One song we're singing that always makes me feel happiest is called "Good Day Sunshine. It's all about feeling good and enjoying life. My favorite word

Dr. Samuel Johnson's "A Dictionary of the English Language" was published today in 1755 and as this dictionary is one of the most influential dictionaries in the English language, this got me thinking about how I love words, especially words I think are funny. One such word is "flibbertigibbet" which is  technically a middle English word that describes a talkative person. Apparently people in Yorkshire, England. I just think the word is fun. Anyway, I  wish everyone a very happy Sunday.

A cake for my mum

It's my mum's birthday and in her honor my dad and I made a chocolate cake! This is a big deal because I'm not known for my cake baking skills and although I was told I went a little heavy on the icing business, (you can never have too much icing in my opinion) I'd say my dad and I made a pretty good cake! I also want to wish a very happy birthday to my mum!

Sometimes there’s just something nice about being silly and helping people laugh in the process. Part of the reason I like Minion cartoons so much is they are so silly and they remind me not to take life too seriously.  To all who read this, I wish you a happy Thursday with a little silliness in it!

Upon reflection

It’s my birthday today and this somehow got me thinking about a quote from the children’s book Days with  Frog and Toad which goes like this: “I am happy. I am very happy. This morning when I woke up I felt good because the sun was shining. I felt good because I was a frog. And I felt good because I have you as a friend.”

The quote definitely describes how I feel today. Although I’m not a frog, I’ve had a truly happy day and I’m really glad I have friends to share in that happiness. If you’re reading this and it’s also your birthday, I wish you the happiest of birthdays!

As long as breaking a rule doesn’t severely a harm oneself or others, a little rule breaking doesn’t seem like a terrible idea to me, plus it can be really fun. I find I learn more by breaking rules. In that spirit, if you feel like doing something that’s fun but might break a rule, ( again providing that it won’t cause significant  harm to you or others)  I’d say be a rebel and do it!

Happy Birthday to the Internet

Today apparently is the Internet's (albeit symbolic) birthday. This got me thinking about how much the internet has changed my life. It's helped make it easier for me to keep in touch with people living and working in far away places. Plus it's made it easier for me to work and keep this blog.  As it's the Internet's birthday and weekends in general, I found this video that seems very appropriate.

This quote really spoke to me because it's a comfort to know that failure and success are temporary but courage is something you can always have. I find that as long as I know I have to do something to get where I want to be, I can focus on that thing and pursue it. It's nice to feel brave because it helps me feel stronger and more able to accomplish things I want to accomplish. If I could wish something for everyone, I would wish them courage. If you're going through something difficult know that because you have to get through it to advance in life then you will get through whatever it is. I wish everyone the very best now and always.
