Stormy weather

 The singer Lena Horne was born today in 1917 and to celebrate (because I like her music and it happens to be stormy out) I thought I'd post this song below because even though it's a bit sad, it's also beautiful.  I heard this lovely piece of music called "Third Wish" from the movie In America and I felt I had to share it here. Lovely cookout

 This evening I went to a lovely cookout at my church choir director's house. It was so lovely to see in person people I hadn't seen in person in over a year. For the first time in a long time I actually felt safe being with people in person which was so nice. Plus, to me, meals always taste better when they're shared. New haircut

 Today I went and got a hair cut at an actual salon for the first time in over a year. Sometimes it's just nice to pamper oneself when possible. In any case, I feel much better.  There's something nice about knowing what you're good at doing and being able to do something you're good at on a regular basis. A really sweet video

 I saw this video and thought I should share it now as it shows how a little kid can be so dedicated to his dad that he won't sleep because he doesn't want his dad to be lonely. In celebration of Father's Day

 In celebration of Father's Day I thought I'd share a story about my Dad. I remember him teaching me how to drive a stick shift. I remember being rather frightened of it but it was really helpful to know he was there and that he'd help me. Granted, he probably was just as nervous as I was but I did learn how to drive and the fact that he was there and he had faith in my abilities made all the difference. I've always been grateful for it. So I write this post in honor of Father's Day and to send best wishes and much love to  my Dad and fathers everywhere.

Continuing travels

I went for a bike ride today and I do feel like the trip stayed with me because it made me feel excited that I could go for more bike rides in the future. I find I see more or perhaps I notice more when I travel by bicycle. It's nice to enjoy nature that way. In any case, riding my bike makes me feel happy. It's the musician Sir Paul McCartney's birthday today and to celebrate it I thought I"d share my favorite Beatles song which is called "In My Life". I like it because it's' all about loving someone dearly and I figure love is the best thing there is. It's the best thing you can give anybody. There's something nice about this quote. A Happy Dance for a Friday

 I saw this video that made me laugh and think of how when I was really little i liked to splash around in the bath. Plus the monkey in the video looks super happy when he's dancing!  The singer and actress Judy Garland was born today in 1922 and one of the songs she sang that I particularly like is called "I Don't Care". I like it because it's all about being your own person and enjoying being yourself.  Plus, it really brings me joy  to watch Judy dance and sing that song. Railway memory

George Stephenson, the British engineer who is credited with constructing the first railway was born today in 1781. This got me thinking about how my grandfather worked for British Rail and also about how I've always rather liked traveling by train. I think my grandfather enjoyed his job on the railway worker. One of my favorite stories involving my grandfather was a story about how he pulled a train's fire cord. Apparently he was on a train and saw that a fire had started in one of the cars and my grandfather pulled the fire cord to stop the train.When he was interviewed afterwards all he could say was something to the effect of "I always wanted to pull the fire cord and now I finally got the chance to do it!" I've always liked traveling by trains myself. There's just something nice about it. Wherever you're reading this, I hope you have the opportunity to have a fun train trip.  The musician Dean Martin was born today in 1917 and I wanted to mark this occasion by posting one of my favorite song that he's famous for singing, which is called "Ain't That A Kick In The Head".  I like the song because I think it's classy and it's fun to dance to.  The British composer Edward Elgar was born today in  1857 and I thought I'd write about his music as I find it to be very soothing. I especially like this piece called Nimrod which really is lovely.
