A warning about Rice Krispies!

Warning!

Stop children from eating Rice Krispies! I used to eat Rice Krispies a lot as a child and now I am facing the consequences of eating this breakfast cereal! I guess I ate that cereal too much because  now that I’m older, when I move around my bones go snap, crackle and pop!

Be noisy!

"If you're quiet, you're not living. You've got to be noisy and colorful and lively." Mel Brooks
Read more at: https://www.brainyquote.com/authors/mel_brooks

Being noisy can be a lot of fun. I remember when I was a kid I used to bang pans and pots against each other just to make sure everyone knew where I was. Nowadays, although I don't hit pans against each other, I have sometimes been known to sing loudly just because I feel good when I sing. My life really is more colorful with lots of music and sound in it. In that spirit, I share a song here that is noisy and fun!

Together we can do so much

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."- Helen Keller

I like the idea that a group of people can do so many positive things together. It makes me happy to see positive things happen like that and possibly to be part of those things happening. Today for example, my co-worker and her mom drove me home from work and as we were feeling slightly down we went and had some ice tea which was lovely. Together (along with the tea) we cheered ourselves up and it felt better than if I'd just gone by myself to get the tea to cheer up. All that made me think of how much I love my friends and how I truly believe everything is better when done together!

Happiness through acceptance

"Happiness can exist only in acceptance."- George Orwell
Read more at: https://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/george_orwell_119587

Acceptance is an interesting word in that it can mean so many things. I've found happiness in accepting myself for who I am and loving who I am. I accept others for who they are and I love people for being themselves. I'm also grateful when people accept me for who I am.  Although I do accept my past and the situation I'm in now, I also accept that there may be an even better situation to be in and that's what I strive to find. To me, acceptance isn't just settling for the here and now, it's all about what comes next and that's why I love acceptance!

Forgetting to worry

"By forgetting the past and by throwing myself into other interests, I forget to worry."- Jack Dempsey

I like being busy. There's something nice about doing things and it does stave off worry for me. I'm happiest when I'm busy helping others. It just makes me feel good inside and out. If I'm ever busy I'm glad when I'm busy doing things that make people feel happy. Wherever you are reading this I hope you can find lots of ways to be busy doing what makes you happiest!

Something you like to do

"To find out what one is fitted to do, and to secure an opportunity to do it, is the key to happiness." - John Dewey

I know that finding something that you're good at isn't always so easy. For me, the thing I think I'm best at is writing. I found it was something I could do, even if it was difficult at times. Even if it's not in the form of a skill like writing, I hope that everyone can find something that they feel they're good at, or that they're proud of doing. Heck, it could be something like jumping up and down 5 times fast or seeing the good things in each day. Whatever it is, as long as it makes you feel happy I hope that you do it as often as you can. (Although perhaps the jumping up and down can wait until you feel really full of energy!)

I wish everyone the happiest of Saturdays!

Dogs are great listeners

"No one appreciates the very special genius of your conversation as the dog does."-Christopher Morley

I love dogs, not just because they can be great listeners but also because they're lovable. I love and miss my family's dog who now lives with my parents in Michigan. My parents have a border collie that, in the absence of sheep, the dog herds cars and people instead. If you drive to my parents house he will stand in front of your car and make it move the way he wants your car to move since he knows you don't want to hit him. I also remember him being rather protective of my family. Although he wouldn't hurt anyone really, he would bark like a huge attack dog if someone he didn't know, especially a man he didn't know came to our house. However, as long as you are willing to throw a Frisbee or ball for him, he'll be your friend forever.  Plus he is a good listener. Sometimes I'd wonder what he might say if he could really talk. Then again it's always nice to have someone to listen to you, even if they can't talk back, it's comforting to know you're not alone and that you're loved.  So those are the things I love best about dogs (or at least my parent's dog).

A memory with my dad

Since it's Father's Day I thought I'd share a memory that I have with my dad.

One day shortly after my sister was born and had come home from the hospital with my mum I remember because up to that point I'd been an only child, it was a bit of an adjustment. I remember my dad taking me aside and saying "Now Margaret, I don't want you to worry, you'll always be my special friend." To this day it's always been a great comfort to me that  I love my parents and that my dad (and mum) love me and my siblings. In that sense I kind of see every day as Father's Day and Mother's Day because I know that they're always there for me and my siblings and I'm forever grateful for that.

The power of a bus pass

I really like (and rely on) public transportation so I thought this joke was pretty funny. I wish everyone a very happy Saturday!

One day, Dave, the bus driver, was in his bus when the biggest man he had ever seen got on. The giant looked at the driver and growled, 'Big Eric doesn't pay' , and took his seat.
Dave was only a little man and he didn't really want to argue.
This happened for several days. After a week, Dave was beginning to get a little angry. Everybody else paid, so why not the big man?
So Dave went to the gym and started a course of body-building. He didn't want to be frightened of Big Eric any longer.
Eight weeks later the driver had strong muscles and was feeling very fit.
At the usual stop, Big Eric got on. 'Big Eric doesn't pay' , he barked; but this time Dave was prepared for him. He stood up, shaking slightly, and said between clenched teeth, 'Oh, yeah? And why doesn't Big Eric pay?'
'Because Big Eric has got a bus pass', the man replied.

Home is the place where they take you in

"Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in."-Robert Frost

The nicest thing about home and my family for me is the fact that no matter what's happening in my life I know that I have somewhere to call home. I think that I've been lucky in that I've always been loved. If I could give one gift to everyone I'd give them lots of people to love them.  As it stands I wish everyone much love now and always.
Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in.

Fun word for the day

I've decided I really like the word bespattered. It has a nice ring to it and it reminds me of a day when my friends and I tried rolling pumpkins down hills on the Boston Common one Halloween and it poured with rain. We had a lot of fun and we all got bespattered!

Happy thought for the day

"What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." -Helen Keller

I like this quote because I believe that every happy thought we have within us or every happy thing we've  experienced stays with us and the people we love most help make use who we are.  I believe love and happiness are things people never truly lose and that's what I love best about both those things. I wish everyone a very happy Wednesday and an even happier Thursday to come.

Some beautiful music for a Tuesday

I was looking for some nice music to listen to today and I stumbled across a pieced from the Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Arc movie which I really liked. The piece I heard is called "Marion's Theme" and I felt it was really pretty. It reminded me that adventures can be beautiful things. Wherever life takes you, I hope you have many adventures in it and that you can find the beauty of each adventure!

Don't let people rain on your parade

I really like the song "Don't Rain On My Parade" from the musical Funny Girl because it's all about not letting anyone stop you from reaching a goal. I just find listening to it to be motivational.  Plus I like how it's a song that you really have to sing with passion! Anyway, wherever you are reading this I hope that you never let people rain on your parade!

Get Happy

The singer Judy Garland was born today in 1922 and I like a song she sang called "Get Happy" because it's all about being happy and not worrying. Since I always like a good song and dance I thought I'd share a video clip of her singing and dancing to this song because watching it makes me feel good inside and I hope it has the same impact on others.  I wish everyone the happiest of Sundays.

Song for a Saturday

I heard this song called "Saturday in the Park" by the band Chicago, on the radio today and I liked it because it's cheerful and fun to dance to. Wherever you are, I hope you had a lovely Saturday and I wish you an even happier Sunday!

Spread the love

I saw this clip of this really young child waving at everyone and hugging people at a grocery store. I liked it because it shows how even the youngest of us can show so much love to the world.  It gives me hope for the future that people may be even more loving than they are now. Wherever you are I hope that you find many people to love and many ways to show them you care.

A song that always makes me feel good inside

The singer Dean Martin was born today in 1917 and I really like his music. He sang this song called "Ain't That A Kick In The Head" which may not sound all that positive a song but I like it because it's fun to dance to. Plus, when I hear the song it makes me think of my parents as they like jazz and they introduced me to that type of music. For this reason I find a lot of happiness in this song.  I have a clip of it here to send a wish to whoever reads this a very happy Thursday!

All the beautiful things in the world is within all of us

Society seems to value beauty as something everyone should aspire to  and yet I feel that there's so much beauty already in all of us, it's just a matter of recognizing it. When I think of that idea it makes me think of this quote from Russell Brand and I had to share it today because it's his birthday. I also thought it was so nice: "It's difficult to believe in yourself because the idea of self is an artificial construction. You are, in fact, part of the glorious oneness of the universe. Everything beautiful in the world is within you!"

The Sun Has Got His Hat On

It's really a beautiful day where I live. The sun is out and it's not too hot nor too cold. It reminds me of this song my mum used to sing to me and my brother and sister when we were really young and she wanted us to go out and play. It always made me feel happy to hear her singing that song somehow. Plus I love hats and the sun to this day and always. Anyway, I found a clip of the man who originally and I share it here in the hope that whoever reads this will have many sunny and/or happy days to come!

Favorite poem

I was thinking about poetry today and how spring is here and that means more daffodils. All this in turn got me thinking about a poem that always makes me feel good somehow. It's called "I Wondered Lonely As A Cloud" By William Wordsworth. I share it hear in the hope that others will enjoy it as well.

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine

And twinkle on the milky way,

They stretched in never-ending line

Along the margin of a bay:

Ten thousand saw I at a glance,

Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they

Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:

A poet could not but be gay,

In such a jocund company:

I gazed—and gazed—but little thought

What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

And dances with the daffodils.

A funny Joke for a Friday

Just because it's Friday and Fridays are good days to laugh I thought I'd share this joke. I wish everyone the happiest of Fridays

A police officer sees a man driving around with a pickup truck full of penguins. He pulls the guy over and says: "You can't drive around with penguins in this town! Take them to the zoo immediately."

The guy says OK, and drives away.

The next day, the officer sees the guy still driving around with the truck full of penguins, and they're all wearing sun glasses. He pulls the guy over and demands: "I thought I told you to take these penguins to the zoo yesterday?"

The guy replies: "I did ... today I'm taking them to the beach!"
