Finding happiness in the most random ways

I saw this clip of a baby laughing at someone ripping up a bunch of paper for the baby. It was just really sweet to see how much it made the baby laugh. Seeing people, especially babies laugh always brightens my day and I hope it has the same effect on others. I send best wishes and much love to everyone.

The power of a group hug

I saw this clip of a little boy who had survived Hurricane Dorian and was greeted by his classmates with a spontaneous group hug. It made me think of how hugs make situations brighter in being outward, tangible ways of showing support for people in times of crisis. I know that so far, whenever I'm on the receiving end of a hug, I've always felt really safe and protected and at peace. I hope it's something everyone gets to experience. Anyway,  I send everyone best wishes now and always.

Happiness comes....

"Happiness comes from living as you need to, as you want to. As your inner voice tells you to. Happiness comes from being who you actually are instead of who you think you are supposed to be.”  -Shonda Rhimes

In that spirit, I hope that each day you can do something that makes you feel happiest and I send you best wishes now and always.

Stick to it

"Everyone's dream can come true if you just stick to it and work hard."-Serena Williams

I find that I have many dreams and while they may not have all come true, it's nice to know that my work does pay off in reaching the dreams. Plus, I find that I'm happier when I reach the dreams because I know I had to struggle to reach them and am better for the struggle. If you've got something good that you want to do, I hope that you reach your dream and feel better for doing so. I send you best wishes now and always.

A lovely surprise

People who know me, know that I really like Minions and so my coworkers are so awesome they got a real Minion to visit me and the Disability Policy Consortium staff at our staff meeting today. They did this because I've been working at the DPC for 5 years now. I love my coworkers very much  and with or without Minions I feel really happy and privileged to work for the DPC.

A little conductor

I saw this clip of a little girl who was so moved by a choir singing that she started to conduct them while standing behind the singers. It was just really sweet to see how the child really felt the emotion in the music and how it showed in the child's face and the child's actions. Music clearly has the capacity to touch everyone.

Kids are smart

I've always maintained that kids are smarter than people sometimes think they are. So, when I saw this joke, it reinforced this belief. I wish everyone the happiest of Saturdays

A young boy enters a barber shop and the barber whispers to his customer. ‘This is the dumbest kid in the world. Watch while I prove it you.’ The barber puts a dollar bill in one hand and two quarters in the other, then calls the boy over and asks, ‘Which do you want, son?’ The boy takes the quarters and leaves. ‘What did I tell you?’ said the barber. ‘That kid never learns!’ Later, when the customer leaves, he sees the same young boy coming out of the ice cream store. ‘Hey, son! May I ask you a question? Why did you take the quarters instead of the dollar bill?’ The boy licked his cone and replied, ‘Because the day I take the dollar, the game is over!’

Happiness in a hospital

I saw this clip of a teenager who was undergoing cancer treatment and was thus unable to attend a Jonas Brothers concert. After an Instagram campaign was launched, the Jonas Brothers went to visit the teen in the hospital. I always like these types of stories where a celebrity visits kids in hospital just because it's lovely to see kids/teens really happy, even in a place that can be scary and uncomfortable. It shows me that joy can be found anywhere. I wish everyone a very happy Friday and a lovely Saturday to come.

“Everyone looks so much better when they smile.”-Jimmy Fallon

I hope you can find many reasons to smile today and every day and I wish you the very best.

Joyful twins

I saw this news item about a set of twin boys named Milo and Charlie McConnel who have Downs Syndrome and how the boys' parents post about their children's progress so that people can see that having Down  Syndrome really isn't a setback and should be more accepted. Plus, the boys are really sweet and made me feel good inside to see them so happy.  If you want to learn more about these twin boys, watch the clip below.

Toddler happiness

I saw this video of two toddlers who were so happy to see each other that they ran down a sidewalk to hug each other. Seeing them so happy really made me feel good inside and I hope that it has the same effect on others. I send everyone best wishes and much love now and always.

One of the luckiest things

"One of the luckiest things that can happen to you in life is, I think, to have a happy childhood."-Agatha Christie

I like this quote because I did have a happy childhood and I do feel better for it. My siblings and I had a lot of fun traveling with my parents, playing sports, manning lemonade stands and generally having fun. It's true that not every part of my childhood was happy but I feel like I really appreciated when things were fun. In that way, even if and when people have hard times,  I like to think that we appreciate when things are going well more because of having the experience of going through hard times. So in a small way, I think we all have luck inside us that allows us to appreciate and be happywhen things go well, I send best wishes and much love to all who read this.

The greatest happiness

"The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved, loved for ourselves, or rather loved in spite of ourselves" -Victor Hugo

In the spirit of this quote, I hope that you have love for yourself and that you know that I wish you much love now and always.

Find the good all around

"Find the good. It’s all around you. Find it, showcase it and you'll start believing it."-Jesse Owens

I like find the good things around me, whether it's just people smiling or seeing flowers grow or seeing people helping each other in some way. Every time I see things like that it warms my heart.  Wherever you are reading this I hope that you can find many good things around you and that your life is better for it.

Goats like to dace too

I saw this video of a goat and apparently goats (especially baby goats) really like to dance. Wherever you are reading this I hope you have reason to dance on many occasions. I wish you the very best now and always.

If you have only one smile

“If you have only one smile in you give it to the people you love.” -Maya Angelou

I’m all for smiling because it feels good, it’s contagious and it’s something everyone understands. I hope that you can find many reasons to smile each day. Even if you only smile once, that one smile can still spread in making others around you feel good. I send you best wishes now and always.

The power of an hour's reading

"I've never known any trouble than an hour's reading didn't assuage" -Arthur Schopenhaur

I do find that reading something when I'm worried or upset does help me feel better. Whether it's reading a short poem or a saying or something funny,  it does help me. Although it won't solve all my problems, having a distraction to take me a way from a problem for a few minutes helped me focus more when I came back to the problem at hand. Plus, if I found something to read that was related to the problem I faced, then it helped give me new perspective. I'd encourage reading whenever possible, especially in times of difficulty as an escape and as a potential bringer of solutions to problems.  Regardless of whether you're facing a problem, I send you best wishes now and always.

Right where I intended to be

"I may not have gone where I intended to go but I think I have ended up where I intended to be." -Douglas Adams

I've found that life has taken me to unexpected places. When I was young I didn't think I'd move out of Michigan permanently and live on my own. I'd traveled outside the US  but Michigan was always home.  Honestly though, wherever my family is, always feels like home. Anyway,  after, having lived away from home it does feel like I wound up where I meant to go, even if I didn't always know where it was that I wanted to go at first. Throughout my adult life I've always wanted to and worked towards helping people and I now have a job that allows me to help people every day. So even if I live far from my immediate family, I do feel I've ended up where I initially intended to be. Wherever you are reading this I hope that you find where you need to be, even if it is by a roundabout route! I send you best wishes now and always.

The aim of life

“The aim of life is to live, and to live means to be aware, joyously, drunkenly, serenely, divinely aware.”-Henry Miller

I hope that wherever life takes you, that you find a lot of joy in it and that you were always aware of the good things that are in your life and all the people that care about you. I send you much love and best wishes now and always.

Another sunset

I saw this sunset the other day in downtown Melrose, MA and I thought it was rather lovely. I always like seeing nice sunsets because it reminds me of how people I love are living under the same sunset and sky. Anyway, I liked this particular sunset because it made the sky have so many different colors at once and it made me feel hopeful. I wish everyone every happiness and lots of light.

If everything was perfect

"If everything was perfect, you would never learn and you would never grow."- Beyonce Knowles

I like this quote because even though it's good to want to improve yourself, it's nice to know that perfection isn't the best goal.  Besides being perfect would be really boring as there would be nothing left to work towards.  At least for me, reaching a goal and then searching for the next goal is what makes life fun.  If there's something you're working towards, I wish you the very best in your work!

Music reaches out

I saw a news story about a boy who was so impressed about a classical music concert that he was attending, he shouted “wow!” at the end of the concert. What made this special is that the boy was autistic and considered largely nonverbal. So for him to shout “wow” was a really big deal. The director of the society that put on the concert was so impressed by the boy’s reaction to the music that he arranged to have a private concert for the boy and his family in their home. It was lovely seeing in the clip below how happy the boy was listening to the music. It shows how music can reach out and touch people that were previously thought to be unreachable.

Just a little silliness for a Monday

"I installed a skylight in my apartment... the people who live above me are furious!"-Steven Wright

I thought this quote was pretty funny and it made me think that the people in the apartment above mine are jolly lucky I have no idea (or plans to learn) how to install a skylight in my ceiling. Had I the knowledge and the tools (and slightly too much alcohol) I might actually consider acting upon the impulse. Even then I'd probably decide to lie down until the urge passed. Anyway,  I wish everyone the best of Mondays!

A joke for a Sunday

Although it's a bit unorthodox, I thought this joke was a funny Sunday joke. I send everyone best wishes and much laughter now and always.

The Reverend Lewis was completing a temperance sermon and with great expression he said, 'If I had all the beer in the world, I'd take it and throw it into the river.'

With even greater emphasis he added, 'And if I had all the wine in the world, I'd take it and throw it into the river.'

Finally, the Reverend Lewis said, 'And if I had all the whisky in the world, I'd take it and throw it into the river.'
He sat down.
The Curate, Roger Marples, then stood up very cautiously and announced with a smile, 'For our closing hymn let's sing number 365, "Shall We Gather at the River."
