My favorite holiday song

 I've always rather liked Christmas music and so I'm sharing one of my favorite holiday pieces of music here.  It's the actress Rita Moreno's birthday and because she's someone I really admire, I thought I'd share this interview she did with Stephen Colbert. Just some peaceful music for a Sunday

 So my chorus (Polymnia Choral Society) sang this song called Ecce Novum during our most recent holiday concert and I've always found that it made me feel at peace when I hear/sing it. The chorus in the video is another chorus because video from our concert has not yet been posted and I saw this video and felt it was equally as lovely. Wherever you are reading this, I hope you always realize that mistakes can be good things and that it's best to forgive yourself and others and remember how far you've come in life. People go through so many things and that idea gives me hope that if everyone goes through so much and can survive all those things, then I can do so as well. Plus, I find  that it's helpful to forgive myself for the mistakes I make-it's not always easy for me to do that, but it does help.  It's World Photo Day which is the day that celebrates the French government bought the patent for the daguerreotype process-basically the first photography process in 1839.  The director Alfred Hitchcock was born today in 1899 and although I don't typically like scary films, I do like Hitchcock's movies.  One of my favorite Hitchcock movies is called The Trouble With Harry and it's about a group of people who are trying to figure out what to do with a dead man and each person has a different reason for feeling responsible for the man's death and they work together to figure out what to do with the body. Something I learned in grade school

 As August sometimes in the month where kids go back to school, it got me thinking about this lesson in science class where we learned how to open a stuck jar with hot water. If you stick a glass jar with a metal lid under hot water it makes the jar easier to open. When I was really young I always felt terribly clever when I opened jars that way. Anyway, if you're going back to school this month, I wish you every success and if you have to open a difficult-to-open jar, just stick it under some hot water!

Happy National Friendship Day

It's National Friendship Day and so I thought I'd share one of my favorite friendship stories. One day I had to go to the ER due to a sudden illness and a group of friends came with me. While we were waiting for the doctor, in an effort to make me laugh, one of my friends found a bedpan, put it on her head and started singing to me in Spanish. Then she took it off and said something to the effect of "Maggie going to the hospital is such an event, you should take a souvenir, you should take this bedpan!" I then laughed really hard until the doctor came back. Anyway, when I was discharged from the hospital and we were going back home, my friend reached into her purse and out came...the bedpan, which made me laugh more. Then a few weeks later my friend and I went to a holiday gift swap party where we all brought secret gifts for people to choose.  The present my friend brought was rather large and so a bunch of people wanted it. The final receiver of the present opened it to find the bedpan! Anyway, I'm forever grateful to have friends that bring laughter in both really hard and really fun situations. I hope that wherever you are reading this, I hope you have good friends that make you laugh.

A lovely bike ride

A great concert

I realize this is rather long after the fact, but I wanted to share a recording of a concert given by Polymnia Choral Society this spring. It was a cabaret concert where Polymnia members sang songs of their choosing to raise money for our choir's future performances. When you're not looking for it....

 It's amazing the things you find when you are NOT looking for them. I was all upset yesterday evening because I thought my debit card was irrevocably lost so I was looking all over for it and I found: the cough drops I was hunting for last week, 50 cents I didn't know I had in my purse, the sock I thought I'd lost in the coin laundry and like 3 things of chapstick I lost a while back. Then I stopped looking for the stupid debit card and went to bed. Today I woke up and suddenly the debit card was magically on my desk in my minion container where I'd somehow left it (still not sure why I left it there.) Clearly, the Minions are hiding things from me but I still love them anyway. Regardless of anything, if you are looking for something and you're stressed about it,  I hope you find it and many other things you were looking for in the past.  I send everyone best wishes and much love now and always.

 143 is my favorite number because the words "I love you" has 1, 4 and 3 letters respectively.
